The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has been given a one week (7 days) ultimatum by the Federal government of Nigeria to call off the ongoing strike, reports newspapers and blogs.
The directive according to the reports was given today, in Abuja by the acting Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike while speaking with journalists. This sounds like a hoax. Incomplete reports. No quotes. No correspondence. Unverified reports with no source to damage the relationship between ASUU and the Government. The news should be retracted from all sites until proven otherwise. This is another case of poor journalism in Nigeria.
The union has been on strike since July 1 over the non Implementation of a 2009 agreement with the federal government.
The reports also added that the acting Minister Wike had described ASUU's counter demand as ,”outrageous.” What demands?
ASUU and its delegates is said to meet with President Jonathan on the decisions reached at its NEC meeting next week before any announcement will be made concerning the 5months old strike.
