Why Blatter Quit FIFA

Why Blatter Quit FIFA

Joseph Sepp Blatter nicknamed the 'Teflon Man' quits in less than a week after winning fifth term as FIFA President.  He has been at FIFA for 17 years. Here is the backstory of how FIFA's notorious chief lost his job. Statements like ''Blatter resigns'' was always going to be moistened with rumors and here maybe one of football's hidden conspiracy.

Sepp Blatter says: "I have thoroughly considered my presidency and thought about my presidency and the last 40 years in my life.

"These years were closely related to Fifa and this wonderful sport of football, I appreciate and love Fifa more than anything else and only want to do the best for football and Fifa and our institution.

"I decided to stand again to be elected because I convinced it was the best option for football. The challenges that Fifa are facing have not come to an end."

This comes in less than a week after winning re-election as president of FIFA for a fifth term on Friday in an election overshadowed by allegations of rampant corruption in world soccer.

Neither Blatter nor Jordanian opponent Prince Ali bin Al Hussein received the necessary two thirds of votes in the first round, with Blatter securing 133 votes against 73 for Prince Ali.

Stunningly is the simultaneous statement from Swiss Atorney General that many believes was the deal that if Blatter resigns, the swiss government won't prosecute him.

"The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has taken note of the announced resignation of Joseph S. Blatter as President of the Fifa.''

"The OAG has opened criminal proceedings against persons unknown on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and of money laundering. Therefore, Joseph S. Blatter is not under investigation by the OAG. His announced resignation will have no influence on the ongoing criminal proceedings." reads the statement.

So why has Sepp Blatter quit now? The next congress of Fifa is not until May 13 in Mexico.
