Lagos to Host Confederation of African Football Awards

African Champions Nigeria has been tapped to host the 21st Annual Confederation of African Football Awards, it was announced Wednesday. The award is billed for January 9, 2014 in Lagos.

The CAF awards will feature twelve categories which includes; African Player of the Year - Based in Africa, National Team of the Year, Women’s National Team of the Year, Club of the Year, CAF Fair Play Award, Coach of the Year, Most Promising talent, Women’s Footballer of the Year, Referee of the Year, CAF Legend, Africa XI and the CAF Platinum Award set aside to honor some legends on the continent.

Two-time winner Nwankwo Kanu has tipped fellow teammate John Mikel Obi to win the 2013 CAF African Player of the Year award.

"I think for me Mikel should win it this year, or Victor Moses," Kanu said. "They had a great Nations Cup and then won the Europa League with their club.

"And then if you look at Mikel's performance at the Fifa Confederations Cup, he was simply outstanding, so I believe he should win it."
