Nigerian Femi Kuti get grammy respect alongside rap mogul Jay Z. Rapper Jay Z has dominated this year's Grammy nominations, being shortlisted for nine awards.

He is in the running in categories including best rap song and best rap album but has missed out on the prestigious album and record of the year for Magna Carta Holy Grail .

Justin Timberlake, up for seven awards, also saw his best-selling album of 2013, The 20/20 Experience, snubbed.

Afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti, has been nominated for the prestigious American music award, the Grammy. This is the fourth time the Nigerian artiste will be recording this impressive feat in 10 years.

Another Nigerian who had been nominated four times for the grammys, but had not won the trophy is Afro Juju maestro, King Sunny Ade.

The only Nigerian to have won the Grammy, is percussionist and UK-based singer, Lekan Babalola, whose group bagged the award in 2005.

Femi Kuti is being nominated in the ‘Best World Music Album’ category for his 2013 No Place for My Dream album released under Knitting Factory Records.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to hold on January 26, 2014 at the Staples Centre, Los Angeles, United States.
