Why the Outrage over Soyinka's Igbo compared to Boko Haram?

Is the Outrage Over Wole Soyinka's 'Biafra Out-Of-Bounds or the Comparison to Boko Haram brutal? The general consensus amongst the Igbo socio-political organisation is that they are very very upset and, has demanded an apology regarding a recent statement by Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, that the Boko Haram insurgency is worse than Biafra-Nigeria civil war.

In a controversial interview with Reuters, Soyinka said, “The bloodshed is now worse than during the 1967-1970 Biafra war, when a secessionist attempt by the Eastern Igbo people nearly tore Nigeria up into ethnic regions.

Reacting to the statement on Saturday began to grow and the group’s National President, Chekwas Okorie, described Soyinka’s comment as an “assault and shocking.”

“We have never been confronted with butchery on this scale, even during the civil war. There were atrocities (during Biafra), but we never had such a near predictable level of carnage and this is what is horrifying.” Okorie said.

The World Igbo Union has warned the Boko Haram sect not to venture into Igbo land.

The entire Southern Nigeria and Igbo land in particular, would resist any attempt to export the carnage in the North to their area, warning that “Nigeria may be heading for the long predicted disintegration if activities of the sect are not curtailed or confined in the North until it is finally nipped. This time around, it is most unthinkable to imagine that Ndigbo would tolerate yet another genocide against its people on our own soil unchallenged.”
