In India a Catholic nun 28 years old was kidnapped and raped by a group of men in Bamunigam, in the district of Kandhamal (Orissa). The nun was raped for a week from 5 to 11 July.
John Barwa SVD, Archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneshwar, condemns the story: "The perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay and the law must take its course. What happened is a shame."
The nun, According to her testimony to the police, received a phone call from a woman, who reported that her mother was very sick. On July 5, the nun took a train to Bamunigam, where she met two of her cousins and some friends. Rather than take her to the village where her mother reside, the men led her to a place in Orissa. Here the catholic nun suffered repeated gang rapes for a week.
On July 11, the attackers left her at the train station of Berhampur, threatening her not to tell anyone what happened. The victim, however, managed to escape and reached her village, where on July 13 filed a complaint.
At the time, police arrested Jotindra Sobhasundar - a cousin - and Tukuna Sobhasundear, a friend. The other attackers are on the run
