Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese will direct and produce an authorized HBO documentary on former President Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton is getting the presidential treatment with an HBO documentary by Martin Scorsese.

The film, to have the 42nd president's full cooperation, will explore his perspectives on history, politics, culture and the world, according to an HBO announcement. Scorsese will produce and direct.

"I am pleased that legendary director Martin Scorsese and HBO have agreed to do this film," Clinton said in the statement. "I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as president, and my work in the years since, with HBO's audience."

Scorsese also worked for them on the first season of the award-winning television series "Boardwalk Empire." Known for tackling tough subject matter head on in his films, Scorsese is expected to handle the Monica Lewinsky scandal clearly and directly. However, out of sheer respect for the cooperation of the former president, he is likely to present a more fair and unbiased accounting of the extra-marital affair and accompanying political problems it created than many previous media outlets did
