Pope Francis Inauguration Mass 2013: In Photos. Pope Francis, the newly elected head of the Roman Catholic Church, and revelers flocked to Saint Peter’s Square on Tuesday for the inaugural mass of his Papal Ministry. Thousands of people gathered to see the installation led by the first Jesuit and first Latin American pope.

The inauguration recognized Pope Francis as the 265th Successor of Peter. 

Prior to the Mass, the pope received the fisherman's ring and the pallium, two liturgical symbols of his Petrine Ministry and the Holy Communion.
