The 5 most populated cities in the world according to UN


According to the United Nations report on the prospects of urbanization in the world, in 2014 the most populous city in the world is Tokyo, with 37 million 833 thousand inhabitants.

The second most populated cities in the world is Delhi, with 24 million 953 thousand inhabitants, and third place belongs to Shanghai with 22 million 991 thousand people.

Mexico ranks fourth with a total of 20 million 843 thousand inhabitants. The UN estimated that the population growth in the city of Mexico will reach 23 million 865 thousand inhabitants in 2030, so that will be surpassed by several Asian and African cities.

After Mexico, the fifth most populated cities in the world are Sao Paulo, with 20 million inhabitants 831 and Mumbai and Osaka, both with just over 20 million people.

By 2030, according to UN projections, Tokyo, Delhi and Shanghai will continue to be the most populated cities in the world, in that order, but then will follow Bombay, Beijing, Dhaka, Karachi, Cairo and Lagos.

By 2050, it is estimated that India will add 404 million urban dwellers to their hometowns, while China added 292 million and Nigeria will add 212 million people to its cities.

While today there are 28 mega-cities, which have over 10 million inhabitants, in 2030 there will be 41 mega-cities.
