Geometric Power owned by former Minister of Power, Dr Barth Nnaji will commence the operation of Nigeria's first privately owned power plant in Aba in March.
The Managing Director of the company, Agartha Nnaji disclosed this to members of the National Good Governance Tour team when she received them at the project site on Friday.
Nnaji said the plant, when commissioned, will provide uninterrupted power supply to Aba and its environs.
“We have completed all the major works on this project; we have laid the pipeline for the supply of gas to the plant.
“The distribution facility is also near completion, so by March, the first turbine will be fired and the remaining two will follow shortly,’’ she said.
The 140 megawatt gas driven plant has three turbines already installed, while an overhead line, a 27 kilometre gas pipeline and a sub-station have since been completed.
Nnaji said the company has entered into an agreement with Shell Petroleum Company for the supply of gas and it plans to absorb and train some former staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to work at the plant.
