Nigeria Declares Buhari Winner of 2015 Presidential Election

Winner of 2015 Nigeria Presidential Election

By early afternoon on Tuesday March 31, 2015 in Nigeria, about 21 million votes had been counted and collated by the INEC. The results from 33 of Nigeria's 36 states has the 72-year-old Muhammadu Buhari more than 14 million votes and Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, at 11 million votes.

Buhari won 49% of about 21 million votes cast compared to Jonathan's 47% of the vote. Two of the country’s 36 voting blocks had yet to announce their results, which are expected later in the day. The results from both states are not expected to offset the over 2million vote deficit. Luck seems to be running out from Goodluck.

General consensus and political analyst are now calling the election for Buhari. This has prompted the News Declaration that Buhari is the winner of 2015 Nigeria Presidential Election

The win will would mark the first time in 16-years that the People’s Democratic Party lost a presidential election. Also a Buhari and APC victory would mark the beginning and the emergence of a genuine, competitive two-party system in Nigeria democracy.

Nigerian Presidential Election: Buhari ahead, APC leads PDP

Nigerian Presidential Election results

Unofficial results of the Nigerian Presidential election from northern and southwestern regions showed the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) leading the presidential race against ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Millions of Nigerians went to the polls Saturday to elect a new president, 360 House of Representatives members and 109 senators. More than 300 polling stations were opened Sunday to conclude the presidential election and official results will be available at the INEC site within 48 hours.

Marred by violence and delays, voting in Nigeria's presidential election was extended for a second day, until Sunday, March 29, in some parts of the western African countries, as counting started in other areas.

“There were places where there were challenges,” Kayode Idowu, a spokesman for Nigeria’s election commission, was quoted by The Wall Street Journal.

“For those areas there’s nothing one can do, other than say, well, so be it, come back tomorrow.”

The new system requires votes to register first using biometric cards with their fingerprints before casting their votes.Using the electronic verification system for the first time, Saturday's voting was hindered by several technical problems and delays that left many at polling station frustrated.

In several sites of the 150,000 polling stations nationwide, voters complained that card readers were working slowly or not at all.

"We have had 100% failure reading fingerprints", Kofar Fada, an INEC worker in the rural Rano local government area of Kano, a state in Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north, told Al Jazeera.

"It (the technical problems and extension) will not affect returns on (the) presidential election," the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, told Agence France Presse (AFP).

Latest Poll Results: Presidential Election Day in Nigeria

2015 Presidential Election Polls

Saturday March 28, 2015 was the date when the meetings of the electors of the Nigeria president and vice-president will be held in each state.

Saturday's vote between incumbent Goodluck Jonathan's People's Democratic Party (PDP) and former military leader and All Progressives Congress (APC) Muhammadu Buhari is expected to be the closest since the end of military rule in 1999 and could see the PDP and Jonathan lose power.

A new survey conducted from March 14th to March 25th by Survey MonkeyTM shows that Muhammadu Buhari is on track to win the 2015 Presidential elections with about 32.3 million total votes while Goodluck Jonathan will obtain about 7.7 million votes from an average of 40 million votes.

Nigeria's two main presidential candidates have signed an agreement to prevent violence in tightly contested elections due on Saturday.

Everything about Aloye Adede 'Eyola' fashion

Aloye Adede aka Eyola's Nigerian fashion label
Aloye Adede aka Eyola's Nigerian fashion label adds a new touch to British tailoring styles. Femme De Rose and Eyola's traditional designs are a-must-lookbook. Fashion designer Eyola was born and raised in London and later moved to Italy to study Fashion Communication and Styling at the prestigious design school Istituto Europeo di Design. She graduated with a Masters degree in 2007. On her return to London in 2008 she set up her eponymous label Eyola- fascination of the Victorian epoch – a time of creation, innovation, celebrating the different cultures around the world and supporting freedom of expression.
www.eyola.com www.femmederose.com : www.facebook.com

In 2011 Eyola's Femme De Rose was born, a virtual design companion supporting women, who inspire and influence trends, to express themselves through fashion. Femme De Rose's online custom-made service gives women an intimate experience designing a blazer jacket tailored and personalized to their individual style and size, a staple item that is infinitely desirable and the only one of its kind.

Aloye Adede 'Eyola' fashion
Osaseye sat one-one-one with the prestigious Eyola and winner of the "Most Promising Designer of the Year", AFI, 2010; "Emerging Talent", Vogue Talents, Vogue Italia, 2009 for an in-depth analysis of this breathtaking fashion designs

Why you started the project
Having studied fashion pioneers of the past, particularly during the nineteenth century, I realised that fashion during those times set out to break boundaries, captivate and inspire. With layers of innovation stripped year after year, it is becoming an increasing priority to attend to the commercial aspects of fashion while creativity often takes the back seat.  I wanted to create a fashion 'dialogue' between luxurious fabrics, elaborate craftsmanship, creativity and individualism.

The purpose behind the project
My goals are: creating well-crafted clothing that will serve women for a lifetime, promoting and celebrating individualism and hopefully bringing a breath of fresh air to fashion. Something different, something new. By only creating one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces, my intention is to encourage women to make their own choices and decisions in all aspects of their lives. Oftentimes we are surrounded by rules to abide by. In the case of fashion: what to buy, what not to wear, what to wear, when to wear it, when to stop wearing it. These barriers make us all become robots and I hope I can salvage a bit of individualism before it is long lost.

What makes Eyola different from the other platforms
Eyola designs are an amalgamation of fashion's past, present and future, achieved through traditional craftsmanship, modern tailoring and timeless luxury. There are two womenswear lines under the Eyola brand umbrella. The Eyola label's focus is on one-of-a-kind and limited edition cocktail dresses, evening gowns and bridal wear, all timeless without an 'expiration' date - thus shunning the short-lived lifespan that plagues today's fashion industry. Sister label Eyola's Femme De Rose focuses on wardrobe staple items putting women in the driving seat by giving them tools to design their own fashion online. Our first wardrobe staple is the blazer jacket, which can be designed and ordered via our website www.femmederose.com. Once the design is complete, it is handmade in London by skilled tailors and then delivered worldwide. It's simply a celebration of the past, present and future - where tradition, modernity and timelessness unite. Following the principles of nineteenth century British tailoring, Femme De Rose has given traditional tailoring a modern makeover by introducing a design-your-own online service.

What you want young aspiring Nigerian entrepreneurs to know about you
Giving up is not an option. No one can achieve long-term success without hard work and sacrifices.

World Bank calls Edo State Adams Oshiomhole a stellar example of Governance

World Bank calls Edo State Adams Oshiomhole a stellar example of Governance

World Bank calls the transformation agenda, people- oriented policies, transparency in government, public procurement and good governance of Adams Oshiomhole in Edo State, Nigeria over the past six years stellar

The praise report came through its International Development Agency (IDA), at the commencement of a three-day inspection visit and technical sessions on the Edo State Employment and Expenditure for Results/ Development Policy Operations (Edo SEEFOR/DPO), an IDA assisted programme.

IDA’s Task Team Leader (TTL), Jens Christensen, praised the state government for meeting conditions that enabled it access an earlier $75 million grant from the World Bank. According to him, “I want to say clearly that the World Bank Group, the IDA, is extra-ordinarily proud to be a partner with Edo state, one of the things we look forward when we want to find people to support them is ownership, drive, vision and ability to deliver and it is clear that when we look across the states in Nigeria Edo state is one of the states we are very proud and happy to be able to partner with.

“It is clear that in our line of service, we do not want to implement reforms, we do not want to design reform, we want to support the reformers, we want results delivered, we want our counterparts to be in the driver’s seat and we support.

“It is clear to us that Edo performs. We have seen its involvement in urban and rural infrastructure, drainage, and youth activities and we have also been compared to many other parts of Nigeria on the reform agenda that is taking place.” Oshiomhole has demonstrated that the World Bank’s can support the development and implementation of an open government initiative in Nigeria’s Edo State.

It reflects upon the process of design and implementation of the first phase of the Edo State Open Government Initiative, which began in 2011 and sought to establish a broader framework for an Open Government ecosystem in the state.

Phase 1 culminated with the launch of the Edo State Open Data Portal in September 2013, the first sub-national portal in Africa and which contains more than 100 data sets that had not been previously digitized or released to the public. Using this experience as a reference point, the note seeks to surface some lessons learned for effectively partnering with governments (both federal and state) on an open government agenda. At its core, open government is commonly perceived as being comprised of three main pillars: participation, transparency and collaboration.

The World Bank’s engagement with the Edo State Government in establishing of an Open Government Framework and moving open government ideas forward has resulted in a number of tangible outcomes and public goods.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has flagged off a N5.7billion Auchi and N2.7billion Queen Ede Erosion projects to tackle the menacing gully erosion threatening to consume the community, describing it as a historic intervention that will change the fortune of the kingdom. Speaking at the flag-off of the World Bank-assisted project, Oshiomhole said, “We have borrowed N5.7 billion naira to protect this great kingdom of Auchi, to restore hope and to remove the fear and the pain, that people suffer when it rains because that is the primary purpose of government. The loan that the bank gave to us is at an interest rate of less than 1% and it was spread so thinly that we pay painlessly. So it takes a sensible government, competent and transparent for people to access this World Bank facility.

“I want to congratulate you for witnessing this historic intervention which will change the fortune of this great kingdom and all those who reside in this kingdom. When men or women who are enthroned into office by God conduct themselves under the guidance of God and ensure that justice and fairness rule, then the people will rejoice because they will witness development. “I am really excited at this rare privilege that we are here to formally flag off the restoration and the construction of the Auchi erosion project.

The World Bank has announced the approval of a $75million (about N11.25billion) concessional credit facility in support the First Edo State Growth and Employment Support Programme.

The bank identified the reforms undertaken by the state government to improve the management of public resources to include the enactment of a public procurement law, sanitizing the payroll through use of biometrics technology for identification, use of an integrated financial management information system for budget management, improving transparency in procurement through the publication of contracts awarded, and strengthening external oversight by clearing the backlog of audited financial statements.

“An improved business climate is critical to attracting investors to Edo, and hence, to generating growth and creating employment opportunities,” she said, adding that the Edo State government has been working on improving the quality of education to meets the demands and needs of the employment market.“One key reform undertaken aims at improving governance at institutional level through the establishment of school-based management committees (SBMCs) in technical and vocational education institutions,” she said. “SBMCs will ensure that communities are involved in school decision-making, that will lead to improved student achievement and other outcomes as the local people demand closer monitoring of school personnel, better student evaluations, a closer match between the school’s needs and its policies, and a more efficient use of resources.

“Edo State Government is also piloting an Education Management Information System to ensure that there is adequate, accurate, and up to date information for planning, monitoring, and implementation of policies and programs for improving the quality of education. The state governor, Adam Oshiomhole said apart from helping bridge a financing gap for his administration to implement the critical infrastructure projects the state needs to stimulate growth and create employment opportunities, the reforms undertaken by his administration, which has earned it the World Bank’s recognition, would ensure that the state obtains value for money in the utilization of the funds. Azura-Edo one billion dollar power project is a clear demonstration of the confidence of the international community, including World Bank in the economy of Edo State led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

It is an indication that Edo State is investor friendly as the Government under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has put in place the necessary infrastructure to attract investors to the state.

Recognizing Policy and Institutional Reforms for Growth and Employment Creation: Edo State received $75 million Budget Support from the World Bank WASHINGTON, April 12, 2012– The World Bank Board of Executive Directors on March 29, 2012 approved a US$75 million concessional credit to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a First Edo State Growth and Employment Support Program. The approved credit was in the form of budget support similar to that which was extended to the State of Lagos in 2011.

Finally, the Edo State Government is also piloting an Education Management Information System to ensure that there is adequate, accurate, and up to date information for planning, monitoring, and implementation of policies and programs for improving the quality of education.

Again Congratulations to Comrade ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE for all the good works!

WHO calls on Nigeria to help citizens reduce sugar intake

Nigeria to help citizens reduce sugar intake

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday called on all countries (Nigeria included) to reduce sugar intake among adults and children to less than 10 percent of their total energy intake.

According to WHO, a further reduction to below 5 percent or roughly 25 grams, that is 6 teaspoons per day, would provide additional health benefits and reduce risks of obesity, overweight and tooth decay, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here.

"The guideline does not refer to the sugars in fresh fruits and vegetables, or to sugars naturally present in milk, but to glucose, fructose, sucrose or table sugar, as well as sugars naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates," Dujarric said.

Meanwhile, WHO warns that much sugar consumed today is "hidden" in processed foods that are not usually seen as sweets.

Based on the quality of supporting evidence, these recommendations are ranked by WHO as "strong", which means they can be adopted as policy in most situations, the spokesman added.

It happened live on the program Grand Journal of French television as the pop queen responded to requests from the public. " You are the queen of provocations, can you prove it? " Madonna with a smile, did not think twice before opening her legs and started fondling her private parts, pretending to masturbate. See picture above.
