 The national celebrations were attended by at 15 leaders including two of Africa's Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe and Yahya Jammeh of Gambia.
England's Queen Elizabeth was represented by Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent.

Uganda attained independence on Oct 9, 1962 after 68 years of British colonial rule.
