Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the country's presidential election with 50.7 percent votes, Ghana Electoral Commission announced late Sunday.
National Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman Kwadwo Afari-Gyan told a packed press conference in the capital that, with results from all the 275 constituencies collated by the Commission, President Mahama recorded 5,574,761 votes, representing 50.70 percent of the total votes cast, to beat his closest rival Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who bagged 5,248,898 votes, representing 47.7 percent votes.
Afari-Gyan gave the total votes cast as 11,246,982 out of a total of 14,415,890 registered voters. The turnout, he said, was 79.43 percent.
