Mother of three children found dead in Drummondville charged with three counts of first degree murder

Sonia drown her own three children

The mother of three children found dead in a Drummondville, Quebec, Canada on Sunday has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Sonia Blanchette 33, whose three young children, Laurelie, Loic and Anais drowned in their home on the weekend was alone with her children at the time of their deaths despite the fact that all of her visits were supposed to be supervised.

Their grandmother found their bodies during a visit to the home.

She had lost custody of the children to her ex-husband last year. In a separate case, she is accused of kidnapping the youngest child.

Blanchette had been hospitalized since the murders after swallowing a cocktail of drugs.

A funeral will be held on Saturday for Laurélie, 5, Loïc, 4, and Anaïs, 2.
Earlier this week, the children's father, Patrick Desautels, released a written statement asking for privacy for the family.

He said he loved his two daughters and son deeply, and will miss them for the rest of his life.

The mother had lived alone with the three children in the second floor of a duplex for about two years.
