Same-sex marriage in Nigeria

First Nigerian same-sex marriage held in Lagos as couples wed in a popular hotel.
Same-sex marriage in Nigeria

Reports says “The ‘groom’ was an actress. Pretty and fair skinned, well built and always behaving like a man.''

“Oh, she didn’t just start now. She’s been into the act for like almost all her life. From secondary to university, we all knew her to be one. She just wedded a fellow lesbian. Something that is against the law in Nigeria.

“And you won’t believe this: She is a married woman o! But lesbianism has obviously entered her blood. Only God knows whether her husband still touches her. These small-small girls who are her partners practically live in her house.

“She tells her husband that they are her colleagues, who have accommodation problem. But it is a big fat lie. The man, maybe, would have protested or even kicked them out since. But being that he is currently out of job and now depends on her to do practically everything, there’s almost nothing he could do”.

“The unusual wedding took place at the pool side of a popular hotel in Ogudu, Lagos. And in attendance were said to be other known lesbians like Sola, Rita, Elizabeth, Bunmi, Victoria and Sandra.

African Universities Ban Public Place 'Kissing & Sex'

African Universities Ban Public Places 'Kissing & Sex'

In a newly revised code of conduct to tame African sex, authorities at the University of Zimbabwe released a statement on two weeks ago that any students "caught in any intimate position such as kissing or having sex in public places" would be punished.

The university also barred students staying on campus from bringing opposite sex member to their hostels and "loitering in dark places outside the sports pavilion or lecture venues."

The Zimbabwe students leader and union on is not happy with the new code of conduct. Gilbert Mutubuki, leader of the union said students would resist the rules that is now fully implemented

"We are against these rules which we view as archaic, repressive and evil," Mutubuki, president of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASSU) told AFP.

"We are urging students to resist the rules. These rules reduce the university to a primary school. The authorities need to be reminded that this is an institute for adults who are mature."

He said the rules, which also bar students from accommodating non-resident colleagues, were meant to curtail students' right to associate. Osaseye believes this is good news to African universities and opposite students can always meet in public areas and libraries. While other African Universities already have this in place, more will release statements soon.

Young and unemployed Nigerians ''No Vote or Election''

Young and unemployed Nigerians ''No Vote or Election''
Profiling Nigeria — It’s been more than four years since Nigeria's uprising young, educated and unemployed citizens struggles to find a job. It's no longer a hidden agenda. The govenment does not care about the young upcoming generations. The main reason why this generation needs to stop taking bribes from prospective candidates. Don't Vote! Make your voice known.

Thousands have decided to give up on their career dream to earn low income jobs like hotel workers, bus driver or start-up their own business. See picture above.

“We didn’t even care about politics ... We just wanted more options. Now, it’s all over.”

Most young and unemployed Nigerians who recently graduated university are told that they are too old for the work available. 25 seems to be the cut-off mark. Graduates with first degree and those with first class are inclusive. But there was once a time when young Nigerians had hope for something better. A time when they felt like anything was possible, and everyone in the streets knew what they stood for. Finish university and get your dream job. That era is outdated and the new candidates and incumbent government is not helping at all.

“The government fooled us,” replied 27 year old Chinedu who graduated first class from Lagos State University told osaseye.

“We’re still poor, even more poor, and there are no opportunities.”

“If I was able to get a degree and then a proper engineering job, things would at least be manageable,” says Osasu, a 31-year-old Nigerian from Edo State.

“With education but without a job ... our lives are stalled like a car.”

Earlier this year, as part of a reporting fellowship on youth unemployment hosted by The GroundTruth Project, colleague Chika Oduah and I focused on the country’s similarly disenfranchised youth.

Most Nigerians we spoke with said this chronic lack of opportunities, amid a culture of government corruption and growing economic disparity, looms larger in their day-to-day lives than the perils of the Boko Haram insurgency.

For many, Nigeria’s staggering unemployment rate and inescapable cycle of poverty has meant a life of crime and violence. For others like 24-year-old entrepreneur Tayo Olufuwa, necessity is the mother of invention, and entrepreneurs are working to fill in the gaping holes the state has long ignored.

“I just realized I could do something with my life,” Olufuwa said. “I could create solutions.”

In the coming weeks, GroundTruth will publish more of our work on young Nigerians like Olufuwa who have lost faith in in the Nigerian government, and have often taken matters into their own hands.

Nigerian Singer Wizkid looks Sick: Addicted To Drugs

Nigerian Singer Wizkid looks Sick: Addicted To Drugs

Nigerian singer, WizKid, has indeed been having a bad 2014. He has lost his music touch to rival Davido. Rumors of Wizkid looks first started after he released the video ''Show You The Money'' Everything looks wrong in the video. He is off lyrics, smoking pot and looks sick.

Wizkid was spotted on Wednesday performing at the All White VIP party at Golf Course Hotel, Kampala, Uganda. It was an invite only party, but the starboy former EME artist looks sick and suffering from drug addiction.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid a BET award winner is also shooting the 'Don't Cry' video with Radio and Weasel. and was caught looking at NTV's Sheila Gashumba butt.

WizKid who was putting up at Crowne Plaza in Upper Hill, kept journalists waiting for two hours. The press conference was scheduled for 11am but by 1pm, the musician was nowhere to be seen, prompting more news that the singer was too high to talk to the media.

Good Time Africa marketing manager, Boniface Mwali, defended Wizkid claiming that he was tired having performed for two nights first in Ghana and then Kenya. “There is nothing much that we as the promoters can do. However, in future, we will be more organised. People should look forward to a lot more amazing stuff from Good Times Africa,” Boniface told Heads Up.

No sign of Ceasefire in Nigeria, Boko Haram Kidnap More

No sign of Ceasefire in Nigeria, Boko Haram Kidnap More

Despite the publicly announced ceasefire deal by the Nigerian government, Boko Haram’s campaign of violence is continuing as more women were kidnapped.

"We heard a loud explosion at the motor park and we rushed to the area and found some people caught by the blast," resident Muttaka Usman explained over the phone.

"It's our understanding that negotiations about a deal to release the girls continue"

The day after the cease-fire was announced, gunmen attacked the villages of Waga Mangoro and Garta, in Adamawa state, and abducted 60 women and girls, Nigerian news reports said Thursday.
Another village, Pelachiroma, was attacked Monday, according to news reports.

On Wednesday evening, five people were killed in a bomb attack on a bus station in Azare, in Bauchi state.

No Sign of Ceasefire or deal to release the 219 schoolgirls that were kidnapped over 6 months ago.

The fate of 219 schoolgirls abducted in April remains unclear. The Nigerian government has denied giving an expiration date to the release, though they are confident that the schoolgirls will be released this week. Osaseye believes this is another hoax. What about this 60 more women that were kidnapped and those who lost their lives?

Boko Haram militants abducted about 40 women from the village of Gavva four days ago, said Michael Yohanna, a local government official from the nearby town of Gwoza. In the same attack, 26 people were killed, he said.

Yohanna said attacks had continued unabated after Nigeria's military announced the cease-fire deal Oct. 17.

"The fact is, that cease-fire is only on paper"

"Since they announced the so-called cease-fire, there have been continuous attacks in these places."

Nigeria Free Of New Ebola Cases, WHO Announce

Nigeria Free Of New Ebola Cases, WHO Announce

The announcement that Nigeria is free of Ebola following WHO surveillance, epidemiology, and laboratory testing, is on the WHO website. Senegal has already been declared Ebola-free by WHO.

World Health Organization, WHO will declare the end of the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria on Monday 20 October. We must not forget that Ebola-free does not mean end of Ebola. There is still no active vaccines available. ''For WHO to declare an Ebola outbreak over, a country must pass through 42 days, with active surveillance demonstrably in place, supported by good diagnostic capacity, and with no new cases detected. Active surveillance is essential to detect chains of transmission that might otherwise remain hidden.''

This is a very good news for Nigeria often labelled as for every four cases of Ebola we know of, there might be 16 that we don't. Eight people died out of 20 confirmed Ebola cases in Nigeria, with all infections traced to Liberian Patrick Sawyer, who arrived in Lagos on July 20.

"Nigeria acted quickly and early and on a large scale," John Vertefeuille, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who is under fire from the US government to contain the virus in America.

"They acted aggressively, especially in terms of contact-tracing."

The Ebola Emergency Operations Centre (EEOC) was launched in Nigeria and the organization prioritised contact-tracing and twice-daily monitoring of those at risk.

In all, 898 people were considered at risk and monitored in Lagos and the oil city of Port Harcourt, where Sawyer traveled after slipping surveillance.

No new cases have been diagnosed in more than a month, and October 1 marked the date at which all of Nigeria’s 898 contacts passed the 21-day incubation period during which Ebola symptoms can present themselves.

Nigeria, Boko Haram Agree Ceasefire & Deal to Free 219 Schoolgirls

Nigeria, Boko Haram Agree Ceasefire & Deal to Free 219 Schoolgirls

A major victory for the country as Nigeria's military says it has agreed a ceasefire with Islamist militants Boko Haram - and that the schoolgirls the group has abducted will be released.

Chief of defence staff, Alex Badeh, announced the truce. Boko Haram has not made a public statement. Members of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign and anxious Nigerians are: " monitoring the news with huge expectations."

"Chibok was thrown into a joyous mood yesterday with people prancing and jumping with happiness when the news was aired on the radio," Enoch Mark told AFP from the town where the girls, including his daughter and two nieces, were kidnapped.

"They've assured us they have the girls and they will release them," he said. "I am cautiously optimistic." Nigerian presidential aide Hassan Tukur told BBC Focus on Africa and disclosed that the deal was negotiated over a month.

He said arrangements for their release would be finalised at another meeting next week in Chad's capital, Ndjamena.

Leaders of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Obi Ezekwesili, a former education minister said in a television interview on Saturday.

"We are really cautious because there have been many times that such optimism has been expressed but did not materialise,"

"But all the same, we are hopeful," she said and so is osaseye.

Nigerian pastor David Oyedepo is banned from entering Britain

David Oyedepo is banned from entering Britain

The Multi-millionaire Nigerian pastor, Bishop David Oyedepo, the general supervisor of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, better known as Winners Chapel has joined the US homemaker Martha Stewart, radical Islamic preacher Yusuf al-Qaradawi and US rap star Snoop Dogg on the list of high-profile figures to be denied entry to the UK by the Home Office.

He is Nigeria's Richest Pastor and on the top of Africa's richest pastors. He founded Winners Chapel in 1981 and has grown it to become one of Africa’s largest congregation. His estimated net worth is over $150 million.

He owns lots of private jets and properties in London and the United States.

He owns Dominion Publishing House, founded Covenant University and Faith Academy.

The ban arose from extensive investigations by Britain’s Charity Commission that monies donated to Bishop Oyedepo’s church for charitable purposes were funneled to Nigeria to fund the preacher’s flamboyant lifestyle.

The commission cited that ''Mr. David Oyedepo was diverting funds to engage in a series of profitable ventures.”

Updates: Arik Air Ebola Cover Up? Passenger Died Onboard

Updates: Arik Air Ebola Cover Up? Passenger Died Onboard

An unnamed 63-year-old passenger had boarded an Arik Air plane out of Lagos, Nigeria to JFK, New York. While in the air, eye witness says the man vomited in his seat repeatedly, and before landing in New York he died on the plane.

The 145 frightened passengers were kept on board as CDC officials and police entered the plane at around 6 a.m. when it landed, but after a very brief examination that apparently did not include a blood test with lab results, they claimed the man had not died from Ebola. So how is it then a cover up Americans?

“It was what I was told a cursory examination. ...They were told there was no danger because the person did not have Ebola,” US Congressman King said. "Their (passengers') concern was, how could you tell so quickly? And what adds to the concern is how wrong the CDC has been over the past few weeks."

Thursday's passenger came from Nigeria and the virus has been contained in Nigeria. CDC is to declare Nigeria, as the only Ebola free country. President Obama has been pressured this week to ban all flights from West African nations: so this passenger has to be linked to Ebola and the media calls it Arik Air Ebola cover up. Perhaps, if it is not Ebola, don't give it the credit it deserves.

The congressman wrote to the Department of Homeland Security demanding tougher protocols, while warning that 70 to 100 passengers arrive at JFK each day from the three West African countries stricken by the disease.

"These individuals transit the airport with the rest of the traveling population, including using the restrooms," King wrote Thursday. "Only after they arrive at the Customs and Border Patrol primary screening location that they are separated and sent to secondary inspection for a medical check and to complete the questionnaire."

"I believe there should be a suspension of direct flights and connecting flights from these three countries," King said. "And maybe anyone with a visa from those countries, and who has been living in those countries, should be barred" from entering the US.

African Nation Cup 2015: Nigeria sack coach Stephen Keshi

Nigeria sack coach Stephen Keshi

After winning the 2013 African Nation Cup with Nigeria, Stephen Keshi will not continue as the Super Eagles of Nigeria coach.

Keshi’s recent record with the Super Eagles of Nigeria has been poor. Nigeria has 1 out of 9 points. He has recorded only two wins in 13 games and heavy loss against Congo and Sudan. The latter has left Nigeria’s hopes of qualification hanging by a thread. Keshi is sacked by the NFF and replaced with Amodu Shuaibu to take over from him for the final 2 games of the African Nations Cup qualifier. Is it too late?

The decision was among others announced by the NFF Executive Committee after a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night ‘in the interest of Nigerian football and the desire to ensure qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals’.

Keshi’s technical and backroom staff were also fired along with him. In their place, Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Alloy Agu will join Amodu for the final two games of the qualifying series.-

African Sex: Police Officers Caught In Public

African Sex Pictures: Police Officers Caught In Public

Two on duty African policemen from Kagera, Tanzania were caught performing sexual acts in public. Pictures of the pair making out while on duty became viral on the internet Monday and led to the dismissal of the officers.

The photograph shows the pair kissing while fully dressed in their work uniforms, and was considered grounds for dismissal. They were not having sex. No evidence of the love pair naked or such. Just kissing and a resident rightly said that ''Police Officers kissing in public is taken more seriously compared to bribery''

The image was uploaded to the internet by a third officer, who also took the photo, and drawn to the attention of the authorities at the Kagera police force.

Henry Mwaibambe, the regional police commander, spoke to the BBC about the steps taken, and defends his department’s decision. “We followed all disciplinary procedures to make sure that they were given a chance to defend themselves,” he says.

“The officer looking at the case was convinced there was compelling evidence against them, and that they had breached police code of conduct. That’s why they lost their jobs.”

6-Month Anniversary Bring Back Our Girls

6-Month Bring Back Our Girls campaign' Still Failing

Bring Back Our Girls campaign' Still Failing six-month after the over 200 Nigerian students were abducted. Few protesters and demonstrators gathered for the release of the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram militants.

Members of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign were planning to walk to President Goodluck Jonathan's official residence in Abuja to keep up the pressure on the government to bring the missing teenagers home.

The march is the culmination of a series of events in the past week, including a candlelit vigil, to keep the fate of the girls in the public eye, as media coverage and on-line interest wanes.

"At one point we contemplated holding funeral rites for the girls as our tradition provides," Enoch Mark, an elder in Chibok told AFP.

"But the discovery of a girl last month... who was kidnapped by Boko Haram in January gave us renewed hope that our girls would be found.

"If this girl could regain freedom after nine months in captivity all hope is not lost that our daughters would one day be free.

"This has rekindled our hope and strengthened our patience. We are ready to wait six years on hoping to have our daughters back with us."

Some 276 girls were seized from their dormitories at the Government Girls Secondary School in the remote town of Chibok in Borno state, northeastern Nigeria, on the night of April 14.

Since then, government rescue efforts has failed. Twitter hashtag Bring Back Our Girls has become the Biggest Social Media Fails Of 2014

Will Nobel Prize brings Peace to India and Pakistan?

Will Nobel Prize brings Peace to India and Pakistan

Of what significance will it be if India's child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi, who shared the Nobel Peace prize with Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai, on Friday cannot unite for a good cause.

His remarks came soon after the Nobel Committee announced the award saying it "regards it as an important point for a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education and against extremism"

"I know her (Malala) personally. I will ask her that besides our fight for child rights and education for children, particularly for girls, we have to go a step further and work for peace in our sub-continent. For India and Pakistan, it is very important that our children are born and live in peace," Satyarthi said.
60-year-old Satyarthi dedicated the award to people of India and vowed to work with renewed vigour against exploitation of children and to ensure their welfare. But first, there must be peace between the two Nobel Prize winners.
Satyarthi said he will call 17-year-old Malala to congratulate her on winnig the award. Malala becomes the youngest winner of the Nobel Prize.

Nigeria, 6th Africa's richest presidents

Nigeria, 6th Africa's richest presidents

The post by richestlifestyle has stirred some debate and controversies within Africa. The recent publication named the top 8 richest African presidents and kings as of 2014.

According to richestlifestyle 'Africa is the second largest continent in the world. It is also world’s second most populous continent and regarded as the poorest continent. There are 47 African nations led by leaders who have been ruling for over a decade. Some of these leaders and their families are very rich and their wealth are considered ill-gotten. They make their wealth from natural resources of these nations through the creation of companies under the names of their families.'

1) Jose Eduardo dos Santos – Net Worth: $20 Billion
Country: Angola, Years in Power: 34

2) Mohammed VI of Morocco – Net Worth: $2.5 Billion
Country: Morocco, Years in Power: 15

3) Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo – $600 Million
Country: Equatorial Guinea, Years in Power: 34

4) Uhuru Kenyatta – Net Worth: $500 Million
Country: Kenya, Years in Power: 1

5) Paul Biya – Net Worth: $200 Million
Country: Cameroon, Years in Power: 31

6) Goodluck Jonathan – Net Worth: $100 Million
Country: Nigeria, Years in Power: 4

These were the basis by which their net worth was calculated.

Many countries has disputed the claims. The Nigerian government has condemned the listing of President Goodluck Jonathan as the sixth richest African president. Reuben Abati, spokesperson for the Nigerian leader, described Jonathan's inclusion in the list of richest African presidents as baseless and libelous.

"We categorically assert that there is no factual basis for ranking Jonathan as the sixth richest African Head of State with a net worth of about 100 million U.S. dollars," .

"As is well known, Jonathan has never been a businessman or entrepreneur, but a life-long public servant," he said.

The numbers don't match and I do not trust richestlifestyle basis for computation and analysis. The article has been updated multiple times and names have been withdrawn from the initial list.

Nigeria Airports Will Not Go Private Anytime Soon

Nigeria Airports Will Not Go Private Anytime Soon

If the Airports in Nigeria were owned by private companies, would it rank and perform better than the current state? That is the question for Nigerians to ponder upon the news of Nigeria Privatizing the Airport Aviation Service.

''We are planning to commence the privatization of airports; the airports will be more efficient if the private sector is running them," said Benjamin Dikki, the Director-General of Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) in Abuja.

He said although the government had made substantial investment in the aviation sector, a lot still remained to be done, adding that it was the reason why the government was considering privatizing the airports.

"Very soon, we will engage the Minister of Aviation and we will start a new process of privatizing or concession of airports just like we have done with the seaports," he added.

"We are likely to grant concession of maybe 15 to 20 years, according to the business model agreed on, so that investors can make a reasonable return on the investment during the concession period,"

Google deletes Blogger Linda Ikeji and Blog

Google deletes Blogger Linda Ikeji and Blog
Nigeria and Africa's most popular blogger and blog lindaikeji.blogspot.com has been removed. The reason is unknown this time. But Osaseye believes that this is a cyber attack. You know when a virus is sent to your site because their are many variations of lindaikeji's.

Linda Ikeji complained about threat of spammers and bad belle trying to shut her down. She took to twitter and her blog to inform her readers while assuring them that she will be back soon.

The news first broke when social media analyst @MrAyeDee announced that Google had begun action against Linda Ikeji’s blog for content theft and copyright infringement.

In a blog post titled “To The Guys That Want To Take Down LIB, Here’s A Message To You…lol”

She stated that the success of her blog was the reason why she was being attacked.

She further explained that social commentator, Mr. Aye Dee and a team of IT experts had been working on a plan to hack her blog, disclosing that they had initially hit her blog with spam, and this had forced Google to take down her adsense. Not satisfied with that they kept sending her ‘phishy’ emails in a bid to hijack her blog.

“They want Google to shut it down. That is their aim. Will they succeed? I sincerely don’t know. I’m not an IT expert…I know they are spamming and filing complaints, I don’t know what else they are doing behind the scenes but they are relentless.

Now let me give you guys a bit who this Aye Dee guy is. He’s anonymous on Twitter. Nobody really knows who he is but according to those investigating him, his name is Emmanuel Efremov simply known as EE by his friends. He’s the owner of 15Past8.com media group. Based in Manhattan. Gets funding from some US organization. (His number – 212 9608127). He’s apparently been stalking me for years now and have registered quite a number of my domain names…lindaikeji.net plus 8 others. He also owns 9jalife.com…yep, he owns a blog. He accuses me of copyright infringement but when you go to 9jalife and other websites he owns…98% of the things he has on there are other people’s content. You see pot calling kettle black? Lol.

Immediately he was found out yesterday, the IT expert immediately started to redirect lindaikeji.net to my blog. If you click lindaikeji.net now, it will redirect you to this blog. He panicked yesterday and quickly did it. A name he register as far back as 2011. Lol. Choi!

Not only that, he’s also a cyber squatter. Yep, he registers 100s of websites belonging to others around the world and tries to make money off them. Guess one of his aims is to run me out of blogger so I come to him and his team and pay thousands of dollars to get one of the several names he’s registered. Not going to happen, boo! Hehe

Expensive engagement rings/Wedding linked to divorce

Expensive engagement rings/Wedding linked to divorce

New research study by Economics professors from Emory University surveyed 3,000 U.S. adults who had been married at some point in their lives and found that people who spent large sums of money on engagement rings and/or their weddings were more likely to end up divorced.

Men who spent $2,000 to $4,000 on engagement rings were 1.3 times more likely to end up divorced than men who spent $500 to $2,000. Women who received expensive engagement rings also experienced higher rates of divorce.

Women whose weddings cost $20,000 or more were 3.5 times more likely to end up divorced than women who spent $5,000 to $10,000.

Interestingly, spending $1,000 or less on the wedding decreased the chances of divorce, but spending too little on an engagement ring backfired; those who spent less than $500 experienced higher rates of divorce.

The authors of the paper hypothesize that the correlation between high wedding and engagement ring costs and divorce may have to do with financial stress placed on brides and grooms who are determined to have the perfect day, whether or not they can actually afford it.

For example, women whose rings cost over $2,000 were three times more likely to complain about stress related to wedding debt. On the other hand, those who spent less than $1,000 on their weddings were 82 to 93 percent less likely to be stressed out by wedding finances.

Panic in America: U.S. to study how Nigeria tamed Ebola

Panic in America: U.S. to study how Nigeria tamed Ebola

A statement released by US CDC Director Tom Frieden said "it's clear the nation needs a quick and thorough response to its first Ebola patient"

He said although Nigeria was not completely out of the woods, "their extensive response to a single case of Ebola shows that control is possible with rapid, focused interventions." Apart from Nigeria, the US will also visit Senegal to study its model.

Frieden said "the best practices in Nigeria and Senegal suggest the U.S. should monitor all individuals who may have been exposed to Ebola and establish a dedicated management and response system."

Thomas Eric Duncan, flew from Monrovia, Liberia, the country hit hardest by the epidemic, to Dallas, Texas, where he lies in an isolation unit in critical condition.

Containment went wrong. Missed diagnosis?

He had flown to the United States on September 20 with plans to get married, but started to feel sick days later.

When he first went to the hospital with Ebola like symptoms, he told staff that he had recently been in Liberia. That should have raised a red flag.

They sent him home with antibiotics.

Days later he went back and was quickly isolated. A blood test confirmed his Ebola infection.

Texas public health officials spent the next 24 hours tracking down anyone who may have come into contact with Duncan after his infection broke out.

Another American Ebola patient arrived in the United States on Monday, reminding the nation that the virus killing thousands of people in West Africa, will likely continue crossing U.S. borders. This has raised severe panic sessions in America.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is considering enhanced screenings at major U.S. airports, a CDC official said. But it does not appear to have concrete plans in place yet.

Americans believed that the US government needs to ban all travel to and from these Ebola hit countries. ''Close the flights between Africa and the USA!'' What about those from connecting flights? Do you ban all flights into US?

Study Alert: Top Countries at risk of Ebola by October 24

Top Countries at risk of Ebola by October

The chance that a person who is infected with Ebola reached different countries has risen from minimal in the coming weeks, according to scientists. France is the country at greatest risk with over 75 per cent. Researchers have in the online scientific journal PLoS Current Outbreaks published a study based on normal traffic and the distribution patterns of Ebola.

The analysis shows that France is the European country with 75 percent, by far the biggest risk to gett the Ebola virus befor 24 October. This is mainly because people live in the affected countries in West Africa, French-speaking and relatively many flights go to France. Scientists have relied on the number of flights that normally leaves for Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. In reality, Air France no longer fly to Liberia and Sierra Leone.

For Britain the probability is at 50 percent. That has to do with the high number of flights from West Africa that goes into London via Heathrow airport. The actual rate will be lower. For example, British Airways no longer flies to countries where an Ebola outbreak and that is not included in the calculations.

For the Netherlands, the probability that someone with Ebola comes only a few percent.Airline KLM flying alone on Nigeria and not the much more heavily affected countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Every day there is a KLM flight to Nigeria. Since the Ebola outbreak that number has remained the same, let KLM know. Moreover, the outbreak in Nigeria for weeks is under control.

The chance that Ebola Belgium reached a lot bigger. The researchers write that there is a chance of 40 percent that a traveler with Ebola enters Belgium. Brussels Airlines flies to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

The researchers for the analysis took the normal number of flights. If traffic to the affected countries by 80 per cent decrease compared to normal traffic, the risk for France, 75 percent drops to 25 percent. For Britain means that a drop to 15 percent.

The World Health Organization (WHO) calls incidentally airlines especially not to fly to the worst-affected countries.

The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has today decided to award

The 2014 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

with one half to

John O´Keefe

and the other half jointly to

May-Britt Moser and Edvard I. Moser

How do we know where we are? How can we find the way from one place to another? And how can we store this information in such a way that we can immediately find the way the next time we trace the same path? This year´s Nobel Laureates have discovered a positioning system, an "inner GPS" in the brain that makes it possible to orient ourselves in space, demonstrating a cellular basis for higher cognitive function.

In 1971, John O´Keefe discovered the first component of this positioning system. He found that a type of nerve cell in an area of the brain called the hippocampus that was always activated when a rat was at a certain place in a room. Other nerve cells were activated when the rat was at other places. O´Keefe concluded that these "place cells" formed a map of the room.

More than three decades later, in 2005, May-Britt and Edvard Moser discovered another key component of the brain's positioning system. They identified another type of nerve cell, which they called "grid cells", that generate a coordinate system and allow for precise positioning and pathfinding. Their subsequent research showed how place and grid cells make it possible to determine position and to navigate.

The discoveries of John O´Keefe, May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser have solved a problem that has occupied philosophers and scientists for centuries - how does the brain create a map of the space surrounding us and how can we navigate our way through a complex environment?

How do we experience our environment?
The sense of place and the ability to navigate are fundamental to our existence. The sense of place gives a perception of position in the environment. During navigation, it is interlinked with a sense of distance that is based on motion and knowledge of previous positions.

Questions about place and navigation have engaged philosophers and scientists for a long time. More than 200 years ago, the German philosopher Immanuel Kant argued that some mental abilities exist as a priori knowledge, independent of experience. He considered the concept of space as an inbuilt principle of the mind, one through which the world is and must be perceived. With the advent of behavioural psychology in the mid-20th century, these questions could be addressed experimentally. When Edward Tolman examined rats moving through labyrinths, he found that they could learn how to navigate, and proposed that a "cognitive map" formed in the brain allowed them to find their way. But questions still lingered - how would such a map be represented in the brain?

John O´Keefe and the place in space

John O´Keefe was fascinated by the problem of how the brain controls behaviour and decided, in the late 1960s, to attack this question with neurophysiological methods. When recording signals from individual nerve cells in a part of the brain called the hippocampus, in rats moving freely in a room, O'Keefe discovered that certain nerve cells were activated when the animal assumed a particular place in the environment (Figure 1). He could demonstrate that these "place cells" were not merely registering visual input, but were building up an inner map of the environment. O'Keefe concluded that the hippocampus generates numerous maps, represented by the collective activity of place cells that are activated in different environments. Therefore, the memory of an environment can be stored as a specific combination of place cell activities in the hippocampus.

May-Britt and Edvard Moser find the coordinates

May-Britt and Edvard Moser were mapping the connections to the hippocampus in rats moving in a room when they discovered an astonishing pattern of activity in a nearby part of the brain called the entorhinal cortex. Here, certain cells were activated when the rat passed multiple locations arranged in a hexagonal grid . Each of these cells was activated in a unique spatial pattern and collectively these "grid cells" constitute a coordinate system that allows for spatial navigation. Together with other cells of the entorhinal cortex that recognize the direction of the head and the border of the room, they form circuits with the place cells in the hippocampus. This circuitry constitutes a comprehensive positioning system, an inner GPS, in the brain.

A place for maps in the human brain

Recent investigations with brain imaging techniques, as well as studies of patients undergoing neurosurgery, have provided evidence that place and grid cells exist also in humans. In patients with Alzheimer´s disease, the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex are frequently affected at an early stage, and these individuals often lose their way and cannot recognize the environment. Knowledge about the brain´s positioning system may, therefore, help us understand the mechanism underpinning the devastating spatial memory loss that affects people with this disease.

The discovery of the brain's positioning system represents a paradigm shift in our understanding of how ensembles of specialized cells work together to execute higher cognitive functions. It has opened new avenues for understanding other cognitive processes, such as memory, thinking and planning.

Women have 'back up husband' Men loves Girlfriends in 20's

Women have 'back up husband' Men loves Girlfriends in 20's

''Not a back up marriage......but a back up partner.....yes i do......just as women do.'' admitt woman's representative.  Is committed marriage an illusion? Too many people, men and women, expect married life to be everything we've imagined or seen portrayed.

According to a recent Mail survey of 1000 married ladies, half of all women have a backup husband in mind should their current one break during use. Or, you know, should the marriage not work out for whatever reason.

Some truly prepared wives may even have more than one backup in mindjust in case. The survey also shows that a wife’s spousal-understudy is most likely to be either an ex or an old friend who has always had unrequited feelings for her. The most likely backup husband was a man the woman had known “for around seven years who will be ‘ready and waiting’ because of ‘unfinished business.’”

In fact, 10 percent of participants said their backup guy had already confessed his love in the past, and 20 percent claimed the dude would "drop everything" to be with her,if she asked. Sounds familiar?

Being prepared is one thing, but one in four women also reported having feelings for their backup man “as strong as they do for their other half.” That’s perhaps a step beyond prepared.

When half of married relationships end in divorce you have to ask why get married in the first place?

According to a new study, when it comes to choosing a sexual partner or girlfriend, men of all ages fantasize about one type of woman: the 20-something female.

Researchers from Finland surveyed 12,656 men and women aged 18 to 49 in an attempt to study age preferences in sexual partners. They asked each participant about which age group they were most sexually attracted to during the last 12 months and which age group they actually engaged in sexual activity with.

Men tended to be interested in one single age group: women in their mid-twenties. This held true even in younger men in their late teens or early twenties.

Women and a breast hidden camera

Women and a breast hidden camera

Woman hides a camera in her cleavage to see if men are looking.

If your breasts could see how many looks everyday, would you like to know the number of times.

This was the question that arose from the Nestlé brand Fitness who performed an original mock video. A young sexy woman with a pushed neckline agreed to plant a hidden camera in her breast.

She then left to wander the streets of the city and a replay of the video shows the number of looks from men, women, vendors and colleagues. Her breasts received during the day as much as 37 glances!

Women, would you like to know the number of times your breast is being watched by others? Osaseye eye provides this simple test and challenge during this breast cancer month,

Goodluck Jonathan Speech Celebrating Nigeria's Independence Day

Here is the full text of his address:

Fellow Nigerians,
Today marks the 54th anniversary of our country’s independence as a sovereign nation. This is also the tenth month of our journey into a new century, having marked the centenary of our nation in January this year.

The first one hundred years were marked by triumphs and tribulations, benefits and burdens, opportunities and challenges. We made some far reaching advances in building a strong, united and prosperous nation. We also overcame the forces of disunity that culminated in a debilitating civil war. We have also renewed our faith in one another, and in our country. We have proven that we are truly a resilient nation.

In my address to the nation last year, I did emphasize that we were in a sober moment in our country. We are still in that mood in spite of the many accomplishments of our administration. Our sombreness has to do with the crises of nationhood occasioned by the activities of terrorist elements who have done the unimaginable to challenge our unity as a people.

On an occasion like this, it is important that we remember all the precious souls that have been lost in the unprecedented war of terror unleashed on some parts of our country by these individuals who want to compel us to live our lives their way. They will not succeed!

In their mission, they have maimed and defiled. They have killed men, women and children, rendering many children orphans and several women widows.
They have made violence their ideology and are bent on destroying our country. Dear countrymen and women, we will not allow them.

Night after night, day after day, our security forces continue to engage the terrorists in battle. My gratitude goes out to our armed forces whose will has been greatly challenged by this insurgency more than any other time, since the civil war.

Yet, they have remained undaunted and unwearied in the face of constant challenge and mortal danger. Driven by patriotic zeal, they are turning the tide by their prowess and determination. As Commander-in-Chief, I will continue to do all it takes to enable them to keep on inflicting devastating blows at the heart of terror. Fellow Nigerians, it is our collective duty as patriots to avail our men and women in uniform of all the support they need to fight and WIN this war.

This Administration is committed to making Nigeria safe for all Nigerians, irrespective of our places of birth, how we worship God and our political persuasion. To all those waging war against our country, I ask that you lay down YOUR arms and embrace peace.

To those who have genuine grievances, I affirm that Nigeria will listen to you, if you bring YOURgrievances to the table of dialogue. To the good people of Nigeria, let me restate that our task of building a better and greater country must not waver.

While we continue to deploy our resources in the fight against the terrorists, we do recognize the great toll the conflict is taking on our people.

This is why, to assist the afflicted, we have launched the Victims Support Fund, an independent multi-sectoral charity, which will aggressively solicit resources to augment Government’s statutory intervention, in bringing succour to the injured, the displaced and the bereaved.

In partnership with Nigerian business leaders and international partners, we have also introduced the Safe Schools Initiative which is aimed at promoting safe environments for education nationwide, STARTING with the North East region.

The Presidential Initiative for the North East, a comprehensive programme to fast-track the economic restoration of this region, which has been the epicentre of terrorist activity, has been set up.
Our overall objective is to do all we possibly can, to sustain in the North-East, the momentum of economic advancement, which is on-going in other parts of the country, despite the machinations of the terrorists and their sponsors.

It should now be clear to anyone who was ever in doubt that these terrorists do not mean well for anyone, of whatever religion or dispensation. Their persistent choice of the weakest and most vulnerable in society, for gruesome attack, provides an insight into their abnormal mind-set.

I urge every Nigerian to put aside political, sectional or other parochial considerations, and support whole-heartedly the efforts of the government and the military, in checking this evil.
We are grateful to the international community, and especially our neighbours who are working closely with us in confronting this challenge, for their increased partnership and solidarity. Our steady progress in weakening the insurgency has certainly justified our cooperation.
Fellow Nigerians, in my independence anniversary address last year, I informed you that we had taken cognizance of the suggestion over the years by well-meaning Nigerians on the need to focus attention on rebuilding and strengthening the ligaments of our union. It was in that regard that we announced the convening of a National Dialogue on the future of our beloved country.

We have successfully delivered on that promise as we established the 2014 National Conference headed by Justice Legbo Kutigi. After months of deliberations, which did not come without its challenges, the conference concluded its assignment and has handed its Report to me.
I have made a firm commitment that we would act on the recommendations of the conference. This, I have started by setting up the Ministerial Committee headed by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation to work out the modalities for implementing the Report. Every promise I make, God willing, I will see to its fulfilment. I assure you, we shall implement the report.

One major lesson which the 2014 National Conference has taught us as a country is that, a multi-ethnic country like ours, must learn to embrace painstaking dialogue until consensus is established.
To me, the National Conference is the greatest centenary gift to our country that we must cherish and sustain.
Fellow Nigerians, our 54 year-journey as a nation has not been easy. There have been tough periods, but the Nigerian spirit and the unflagging resilience of our people have seen us through. We will continue to march forward to greater heights.
We have been able to sustain a big, strong and influential country with a robust economy. We are currently in our sixteenth year of uninterrupted democratic rule, daily improving on the consolidation of our democratic process.
Our Administration has made a commitment to ensure that we build and sustain a democratic infrastructure anchored on free and fair elections. International and local observers have attested to the positive evolution of electoral credibility and we cannot afford to relent.
We will continue to ensure that the will of the electorate prevails so that political leaders would be reminded at all times that there is a day of reckoning when they have to go back to the people at the polls. Election days must not be days of violence and death. We must remain vigilant to ensure that our electoral process is characterised by peace, security and transparency.
I enjoin the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all security agencies, politicians and the electorate to work conscientiously and peacefully, together, to consolidate on the gains of the recent elections. Free and fair elections have come to stay; nothing else will be acceptable to our people.

My dear countrymen and women, occasions such as this PRESENT an opportunity to thank God for our country and to report to you, on our journey so far.
Our power sector reform is on course with the ultimate objective of generating enough electricity to power our homes, industries and businesses. We are making giant strides in the Agricultural Sector which we are re-positioning to diversify our economy. We will continue to upgrade our infrastructure to make life easier for all and create an enabling environment for enterprise to flourish.
Over the last four years, the implementation of the Nigerian Content Act in the Oil and Gas Sector has ensured major increase in the participation of indigenous Oil and Gas companies in the industry. Several critical infrastructure projects have been commissioned and commenced. The level of indigenous asset ownership has greatly increased and utilisation of Nigerian-owned and built assets such as marine vessels and rigs is being progressively enforced.

There has been maximised local value addition by encouraging the manufacture of equipment components and parts within the country. There has also been massive growth in indigenous participation in the provision of goods and services to the upstream sector from 10% to 60% within the last four years.
Today, following the rebasing of our economy, every international monitoring and ratings agency now acknowledges NIGERIA as the largest economy in Africa, with a Gross Domestic Product of five hundred and ten billion DOLLARS ($510 billion) which also places us as the 26th largest economy in the world. This is progress.
Earlier in the year, we launched the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) and the National Enterprise Development Programme (NEDEP) with the stated objective of fast tracking inclusive growth, job creation, enterprise development and industrialisation.
The success of these policies is already evident in the increased value addition in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
In line with our objective of encouraging the production of made-in-Nigeria vehicles and making Nigeria a regional hub for the automobile industry, a number of foreign auto manufacturers have established plants in Nigeria, complementing the laudable efforts of our local vehicle manufacturers who have also demonstrated great innovation and COMPETITIVENESS.

We have also launched a special support programme for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises with an initial intervention fund of two hundred and twenty billion NAIRA (N220 b). This is in addition to the Presidential Job Creation Board which I inaugurated recently with the charge to create three million jobs annually.

In demonstration of our Administration’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit, we have commenced the new mortgage re-finance programme with the establishment of the Nigerian Mortgage Re-finance Company. It is expected that, in addition to creating additional housing units across the country, this initiative also represents a huge job creation opportunity.

We have recorded notable success in the social sector. Nigeria has been globally acknowledged for reducing extreme hunger by more than half, with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) formally PRESENTING the country with an award for achieving the Millennium Development Goal on Hunger three years ahead of the 2015 target date set for the Millennium Development Goals.
This progress is as a result of the deliberate policy of government to increase capacity in our agricultural sector of which the first step was to address and eliminate the graft in our fertilizer procurement system and ensure that the product gets directly to the farmer. We are expanding our irrigation infrastructure to ensure that our farmers have sufficient water supply for dry season farming.

A benefit of these combined actions is that our national food import bill has declined from 1.1 trillion NAIRA (6.9 billion dollars) in 2009 to 684.7 billion naira (4.35 billion dollars) by December 2013, and continues to decline.
Modern hybrid schools are being provided for less privileged children across the country, resulting in significant increase in the national school enrolment figure.
In order to further enhance access to education at the tertiary level, fourteen new Federal Universities have been established; and, to encourage persons of exceptional abilities, our Administration has also introduced a Presidential Scholarship Scheme based strictly on excellence and merit.

On infrastructure, we are building roads, bridges, and new rail lines to make it easier to traverse Nigeria and increase the integration of our people and our ability to do business with each other. In this regard, we have commenced the process of building the Second NIGER Bridge. The Loko-Oweto Bridge over River Benue in Nasarawa and Benue States, will significantly reduce travel time by road between Northern and Southern Nigeria. The on-going dredging of the River Niger up to Baro in Niger State is opening up large parts of the Nigerian hinterland to maritime activity.
The Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro-electric power projects are on course, and the Kashimbilla dam which we STARTED a few years ago, is nearing completion. The successful privatisation of our power sector will in the long run enhance industrial growth. Policies such as this and others have raised NIGERIA to the enviable status of being the number one recipient of Foreign Direct Investment in Africa in the past year.

The result of this infrastructure drive is that two and a half million jobs have been created over the past two years. This is a record, which we are committed to improve upon to continue to provide jobs for our youth.
An unprecedented number of Airports across the country, are not only being reconstructed at the same time, but being re-equipped and reassessed with emphasis on maintaining global standards.
Fellow Nigerians, the goals we set to achieve for our country involve expanding the frontiers of economic freedom. Let us therefore unite with one heart and one mind. All our people must have access to the good things of life. All our people must be empowered to pursue the gift of life with happiness. This is our country; we must build it for our common posterity.
As we move into an election year, desperate moves to overheat the polity are BECOMING a regular occurrence. Our political leaders in particular must know that the contest for power should not translate to the destruction of the polity.
The contest for the leadership of our country must yield good governance, and not ungovernable spaces. The love of country should rank higher than our individual ambitions.
We must remain committed to a united and indivisible Nigeria within democratic parameters. The protection of individual rights, liberty, equality before the law, freedom of thought, and a progressive pursuit of a sound economy must be our goal.

I cannot end this address without commenting on the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which was sadly brought into our country recently. My directives to the Federal Ministry of Health saw the ministry leading the charge in curtailing the spread of this deadly scourge and managing its impact. This is how it should be: swift, effective and comprehensive action in defence of citizens.
It must be pointed out that the Ebola battle is still raging elsewhere in our sub-region. I therefore enjoin all our citizens to continue to adhere strictly to all the guidelines that have been given by our health officials to keep Ebola out of our country.

I appreciate and welcome the spirit of collaboration, unity and partnership with which we confronted the threat of the Ebola Virus Disease. I thank all Nigerians for working together to prevent what could have BECOME a major epidemic. I particularly thank the medical personnel, some of whom made the ultimate sacrifice.
This is the spirit which we must demonstrate at all times as we face up to our challenges as a nation: one people, united by a common resolve, in the pursuit of one common national interest.
As we look forward to another year in our national life, I am more than confident that our tomorrow will be better than our yesterday and today. NIGERIA has got the human and material resources to excel and we shall lead the way in that journey to our manifest destiny.
Fellow countrymen, brothers and sisters, in all our plans, and in all our words and our actions, we must stand together in love and unity, as one people under God.
We are one people from the womb of one NIGERIA. We are brothers and sisters. We are one family. We are Nigerians.

God bless the Federal Republic of NIGERIA.
