Finding Fela Trailer (Documentary) Premiere

Finding Fela Trailer (Documentary) Premiere

Alex Gibney's Finding Fela (2014) opens at New York's IFC Center on August 1, 2014. First Official Trailer of “Finding Fela” Documentary is now available on youtube premiering the Nigerian superstar Fela Kuti's revolutionary Afrobeat sound.

To anyone familiar with Nigeria politics, Afrobeat music and revolutionary post-colonial ideologies in Africa, Fela Anikulapo Kuti needs no introduction.

Hailed as a revolutionary by some and a rebel by others, Fela Kuti was a powerful and dangerous mixture of the two.

For many, his music was and still is arguably the most relevant and most poignant testimony of the corrupt state of Nigerian affairs since the oil-rich country became independent from Britain in 1960. His Afrobeat rhythms, black pride and African consciousness, mixed with his defiant attitude, as well as his charm and charisma, made Fela both a hero and a target. From the everyday person to the elite, Fela’s music struck a chord (and in some cases a nerve or two) with people all over Nigeria, and beyond.

In Finding Fela, filmmaker Alex Gibney explores Fela Kuti’s pioneering legacy painting a portrait of a man who has succeeded in achieving his self-fulfilled prophecy, highlighted through his self-appointed name ‘Anikulapo’, of living forever.

Chika Amalaha 16-year-old Nigerian kicked out for failed drug test

Chika Amalaha 16-year-old Nigerian kicked out for failed drug test

Nigerian teenage weightlifter Chika Amalaha has been suspended and kicked out from the Commonwealth Games after testing positive in a doping test. The 16-year old won gold in the women's 53kg category.

The 16-year-old Amalaha provided an 'A' sample on July 25 which revealed traces of diuretics and masking agents.

She will have a 'B' sample tested at a laboratory in London on July 30.

Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive Mike Hooper said: "We [have] issued a formal notice of disclosure to an athlete following an adverse analytical finding as a consequence of an in-competition test.

"That athlete is Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha who was tested on July 25th. That athlete has now been suspended from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow."

Amalaha snatched a best of 85kg before managing 111kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 196kg, to become the youngest Commonwealth weightlifter gold medallist.

It was the first doping case of the Glasgow Games and will likely once again call into question the legitimacyof weightlifting as a Commonwealth Games sport given its history of drug-related incidents.

Hooper though insisted that the sport had its place in multi-sport events.

"I think weightlifting is a fantastic sport and a strong Commonwealth and Olympic sport," he said.

"I think the issue here is about showing we have a robust anti-doping programme in place. We want to send a message to anybody in any sport who would go down the route of taking any substance to enhance performance that they will be caught."

Nigerians Angry over Dorobucci Music Video

Nigerians Angry over Dorobucci Music Video

Nigerians expresses anger over Dorobucci music video. The offcial video for Mavin Records hit single Dorobucci featuring Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr SID, D'Prince, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Di'Ja. Directed by Nick Molotov and shot on location in South Africa has received alot of criticism about the dancers. The dancers could have been better.

Most Nigerians are not impressed with the South African dancers in the Video and would have have preferred to see more Nigerians or Black African for an African themed song of the year. Also, at Tiwa's cameo, there appeared to be a woman climbing a ladder in what has been called 'a flat concept.'
The impact has seen the video hit a staggered 192, 000 views in 72 hours.

Bring Back Our Girls Parents Dead

Bring Back Our Girls Parents Dead

April 15, 2014 DOZENS of heavily armed terrorists rolled into the sleepy little town Chibok in a convoy of trucks, buses and vans. They made their way to the girls’ boarding school at night.

The high school girls, asleep in their dormitory, awoke to disturbing gunfires. The attackers stormed the school, set it on fire, and, residents said several hundred terrified girls were hurried into the vehicles. The vehicles drove off and vanished.

The girls were kidnapped byBoko Haram, whose name in the Hausa language means “Western education is a sin.”

These girls, ages 15 to 18 both Christians and Muslims would never see their parents or loved ones again. 100 days past and still the girls have not been returned. #Bring Back Our Girls social media failed. The Nigerian government failed and kept quiet for the majority of the timelines. Foreign armed forces intervened and still no rescue.

The tragedy continues as seven of the kidnapped girls’ fathers were among over 50 bodies that were brought to a hospital in the area after an attack on the nearby village of Kautakari this month. Four more parents are said to have died from heart failure, high blood pressure and other illnesses many blame on the trauma sustained from this incident.

Community leader Pogo Bitrus has said, “one father of two of the girls kidnapped just went into a kind of coma and kept repeating the names of his daughters, until life left him.”

CNN Lies: Nigeria's kidnapped girls are forgotten

Nigeria's kidnapped girls forgotten

I came accross a CNN article ''Nigeria's kidnapped girls not forgotten.'' The article cited that Wednesday, July 23, marks a tragic milestone. It is the girls' 100th day in captivity. For an adolescent with plans, dreams and ambitions, 100 days must seem an eternity. But they are not alone. The world has not forgotten these girls. Not in 100 days. Not for one day.

I disagree with the article and believe that the Nigerian government and other World leaders could have given more for the fight especially since it threatened education. It sickened me to day this Nigeria and the World has forgotten about the missing girls. The action initiated for the rescue mission has been fruitless and I agree with one of the pioneers Ngozi Ezekwesili ''I feel today, there is need to avoid every form of inertia.”

The once popular #BringBackOurGirls movements launched from local corridors to World's most powerful president's mansion has since collapsed.

The Emergency Coalition for Global Education Action, to get 57 million children in school, will be launched in September during U.N. General Assembly week. The coalition will call on the international community to take action. But, it should be noted that the U.N action to rescue the Chibok schoolgirls 100 days after has been very very poor. How then can you guarantee the Emergency Coalition Act for Global Education to be a success?

U.S 10-month-old died inside a 90-degree Car

U.S 10-month-old died inside a 90-degree Car

A 10-month-old baby died in Wichita, Kansas, after being left inside a hot car for two hours on a 90-degree day, police said on the last Friday in July.

"The child had been picked up from the babysitter somewhere around four o'clock in the afternoon...and somehow forgotten inside of the vehicle," Lt. Todd Ojile said.

According to NBC the foster parents, two men ages 26 and 29, and booked the older one, Seth Michael Jackson, on a charge of child endangerment while the investigation in the Thursday evening tragedy continuesAfter two hours had passed, one of the parents saw something on television that made him remember the baby girl, ran outside and got the child out of the car seat and brought her into the home.

Police got a 911 call about a child unconscious and not breathing, and were on the scene within minutes. The baby was pronounced dead at 6:49 p.m.

Ojile said it was still unclear why the girl was left in the car and why her absence went unnoticed for so long. He said the foster parents were "extremely upset."

"They are two of the most kind-hearted guys that I have ever met. And I hate that there’s so much controversy right now with babies being left in the car because I truly don’t feel from the bottom of my heart they would ever do this on purpose," said Lindey TenEyck, who lives across the street.

Liberians in trouble after man brings Ebola to Nigeria

Liberians in trouble after man brings Ebola to Nigeria

Nigeria confirms Liberian man died of Ebola in Lagos. Ebola caused the death of a Liberian national who died in quarantine in Lagos bringing the unwanted worst-ever outbreak of the virus to Africa's most populous country.

"The patient was subjected to thorough medical tests ... which confirmed the virus of Ebola," as the cause of death, Nigeria's Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu told journalists.

In recent weeks, the news for Ebola outbreak has spread among, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leon and other west African nations. Now it has reached Nigeria. Worse, it has reached Lagos. This is a potential nightmare for Africa. If it gets going, most African countries are not equipped or staffed to keep it contained. Most people don't have access to a doctor, it may well be that they simply don't see a doctor unless they believe it life or death.

The Liberian man collapsed at the city’s airport displaying symptoms of the disease. The man worked and lived in Liberia where the disease is prevalent.

Oby Ezekwesili arrested or Not?

Oby Ezekwesili arrested or Not

The Department of State Security through its Director-General, Mr, Ita Ekpeyong, has denied arresting former Minister of Education and pioneer of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Oby Ezekwesili.

Media reports had earlier said that the leading member of the BringBackOurGirls campaign was arrested, quizzed and released.

The reports from the department of security is that the the former minister is currently in London and there was no way she could have been arrested.

“Did she tell you she was arrested? Did you see her? She is currently in London and that shows you that she was not arrested. We did not arrest her,” he declared.

Mrs. Ezekwesili had tweeted at 7:37 a.m. Monday that she was heading to London to appear on the BBC Hardtalk programme but was prevented from boarding her flight by security operatives.

Is this a democracy? I am being detained by the SSS at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport . The SSS has refused to give my passport to me,” she posted. “On my way to London this morning for my @BBCHARDtalk appearance billed for tomorrow and the SSS has detained me by withholding my passport.”

These tweets soon went viral within minutes with several Nigerians on social media lampooning the government and calling for the immediate release of the former minister.

At 8:03 am, Mrs. Ezekwesili tweeted that the operatives had released her passport.

“SSS has released it. Just barely made the BA flight. Last to board @ 7.55 for an 8.00 am flight that is now taxiing. Is this democracy?” she wrote. “No one can seize my democratic rights. I refused to let the SSS get away with trampling on my constitutional right.”

Is Mrs Oby Ezekwesili blowing things out of nothing or the government lying again?

 9-year old weds woman 62

An Ancient Traditional Laws of South Africa allows Sanele Masilela, nine year old boy, gets a kiss from his bride Helen Shabangu, 63, at their second ‘marriage.’

As he did first time in Ximhungwe in South Africa, young Saneie Masilela controversially kissed his bride Helen Shabangu at her home in Mpumalanga, South Africa, where the latest pretend wedding took place. The 67 year old woman already have 5 children from her first marriage before Sanele. It is a ritual that aims to " appease the ancestors of Sanele "

‘I didn’t have a problem with it because I know it’s what the ancestors wanted and it would make them happy,’ Saneie’s mother Patience Masilela, 47, said.

Mrs Shabangu, who said the wedding was just a ritual, played down the controversy and added the two of them were ‘just playing’.

Peter Okoye Ditches Jude Wedding

When Peter Okoye did not show up at the wedding of his elder brother Jude Okoye, rumors started flying as to why the music mogul bailed out at his blood brother. Fans began to attach the Nigerian pop singer.
Peter Okoye Ditches Jude: A Happy Family

Peter Okoye would not leave his own family (wife and children) to attend his biological brother's wedding. The issue drew national debate that lingers through the weekend. Why did he really ditch his brother's wedding?

Some Nigerians call him childish and others attribute his snub to his big ego in the family. Peter took to twitter to answer some of his critics. ''The most important family is the one I built'' he tweeted in response to an attach of blood is thicker than his own children.

He got furious to a point he threatened to block any of his fans who spoke contrary to his genuine belief of being absent at Jude's wedding.

100 Days to Bring Back Our Girls continues

The first 100 days to bringbackour girls has yielded nothing. Nigerians and the media continue to keep the pressure on the Nigerian government!
100 Days to Bring Back Our Girls continues

People around the world campaigned with the hashtag #bringbackour girls. A campaign which hits over 2 billion tweets and the biggest social media fails in 2014. The story which leaders and presidents had campaigned for has failed to bringbackour Nigerian schoolgirls. The Nigerian government says it has wrapped up an inquiry into the case, even though the world is watching and the schoolgirls are still missing. The viral video from the Nigerian first lady widely turned into a musical lyric. The distraction of the world cup is over. All eyes back on the missing kidnapped teens.

The most recent update on the missing 200 schoolgirls is not from the goverment but from the abductors

"Bring Back Our Girls." Ooooh! Bring back our army. Bring back our army. Jonathan! Jonathan! Girl, girl, girl, girl, girl kristahn! (ph) Bring back our Army!'' Boko Haram leader Shekau mocked.

Most of the parents of the missing teens shared their grief and frustrations that their daughters had not been found after 100 days. They feel ignored by the government. They feel like the girls are braver than the Nigerian military. The parents are now attempting to go into the forest themselves, with bows and arrows, to rescue their daughters, but being told to turn back because they might not come back alive.

"All they are asking for is for the government to search for their daughters," Hadiza Usman of the Bring Back Our Girls movement said. "They feel neglected and abandoned."

100 days to bring back out girls continue.

Nigerian Student Launch its First Solar Car

Segun spoke about how he came up with the idea and eventually embodied it. "In the course of my research, I found out that ourregular cars contribute immensely to climate change… If we could manufacture cars that do not use fuel or reduce the number of cars that use fuel; our world will be a better place for us to live in."

"Asides the lack of electricity, getting the right materials and text books to study as well as other
needed tools was difficult. But the most prominent of them was the lack of funds. I started using my personal funds which I obtained by helping people to do their projects and a little fund my parents also contributed towards the project."

"Everyone likes it and they are willing to start driving it around town because of its low cost of
maintenance. I developed a simple software that can be installed on our laptops and smart phones to tell us the battery level, the weather condition, the distance we can cover during different weather conditions and GPS location of the car."

"I would rather they fund me to put together a team to help me perfect them and make them
commercial."

Impeach Goodluck Jonathan Campaign — To Save Nigeria

Impeach Goodluck Jonathan Campaign — To Save Nigeria

Nigerians are right about impeaching President Goodluck Jonathan. The president should be impeached on refusal to meet Chibok missing parents, refusal to visit Chibok and the acceptance to meet Pakistani teenager Malala 92 days after 200 missing schoolgirls went missing.

Parents of the abducted Chibok school girls Wednesday expressed concern that there was the need for President Goodluck Jonathan to visit them or alternatively invite them to Abuja. You are the president of Nigerians. Act like one.

“It is embarrassing that the president had to wait for Malala to come all the way to Nigeria to convince him to meet with us three months after the attack,” Dauda Iliya, one of the parents was quoted saying

The parents of over 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram from Chibok, Nigeria refused to meet Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, showing their anger at the government's failure to trace the missing girls.

The Nigerian President had organized a meeting with the parents of the abducted girls. However, the meeting had to be cancelled as the parents decided to shun the event in the last minute.

Jonathan had agreed to meet with the Chibok parents, after Malala Yousofazai, education activist and a victim of terrorist attack, requested the Nigerian President to hold a meeting with the parents of the missing girls.

The embattled Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan Wednesday is seeking parliamentary approval to borrow up to $1 billion (730 million euros) in foreign loan to fight the Boko Haram militants.

An impeach Goodluck Jonathan Campaign has now been launched to Save Nigeria.

Japanese Pussy boat Vagina Artist Arrested

Japanese Pussy boat Vagina Artist Arrested

A Japanese Tokyo-based artist Megumi Igarashi, 42, was arrested on Saturday for sending data that could be used to creating and distributing 3D models of her vagina for printing..

Megumi Igarashi - who works under the alias Rokudenashiko or ‘good-for-nothing kid’ - produced the 3D scan as part of a crowdfunded project to create a kayak modelled on her genitalia.

Thirty of the individuals who funded the craft (which Igarashi calls the “p***y boat”) were sent the digital file as a thank you – an action that led to Igarashi being arrested by Tokyo police for breaking Japanese obscenity laws.

The police alleged that Igarashi, 42, collected around 1 million yen (£5700) in exchange for the scans, but local media has reported that Igarashi denies this and does not recognize the 3D scans as obscene.

The 42-year-old artist first made a name for herself with her ‘deko-man’ series of dioramas based on molds of her genitalia. ‘Deko’ is short for decoration, and ‘man’ for the Japanese word ‘manko’ which translates as ‘p***y’.

“Why did I start making this kind of art pieces?” writes Igarashi on her website. “That was because I had not seen p***y of others and worried too much about mine. I did not know what a p***y should look like at the same time I though mine is just abnormal."

"I wanted to make p***y more casual and pop. That's how I came to make a p***y lampshade, a remote-controlled p***y car, a p***y accessory, a p***y smartphone case, and so on."

“I was wondering how I can make it possible, and then I finally found that 3D scanner can make it happen easily! 3D scanner can be used to make a p***y boat that will go across the ocean!”

BringBackOurGirls: 100 days since schoolgirls vanished

BringBackOurGirls: 100 days since schoolgirls vanished

Coming to the first 100 days since 200 Nigerian Chibok Schoolgirls were taken, a new video footage shows the Boko Haram group's leader Abubaker Shekau standing in front of rows of tanks and fighters.

The 16-minute video, which was obtained by Agence France Press and released on Sunday, appears to show Boko Haram's leader Abu Bakr Shekau flanked by several gunmen and two armored personnel carriers. Shekau is seen dancing and jumping around in a mocking tone he seemingly directed at Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan he says: "Bring back our girls, bring back our army."

He then shouts: "Kill, kill, kill Christians," before claiming he is ruled by the Koran and not the Nigerian constitution.

Footage of the youngsters, who have been missing for more than three months, is then shown although it is unclear when it was taken.

The new video hampers dream of any release of the missing schoolgirls and leaves more pain to the families and Nigerians worldwide.

Butt Spa Worth It? Cost, Reviews & Trend

Butt Spa Worth It?

The 40-minute butt spa procedure costs around $500 (£300). Hawaiian Experience Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona offers the Beachbum Buttocks Facial for $59. In Chicago, $90 will get you the "Sweet Cheeks" facial at Tiffani Kim Institute. The latest New York summer procedures uses lasers, chemical peels and moisturisers to tone and smooth the skin.

'I feel great, I love the results - my butt looks better, it's has an even colour, is more toned, and feels so much firmer than it did before.'

The procedure, named the 'Tip Top Tush Treatment' is available at Dr. Matthew Schulman's plastic surgery office in New York City.

Would you pay that much for a Butt Spa or booty spa as they call it. Amanda said: 'The butt facial has become a lot more popular recently - we treat the skin on our faces, we treat the skin on our necks, our hands.

'But especially with summer here and bikini season here, a lot of women, and sometimes even men, want to treat the skin on their butts.

Alexis Wolfer, founder and editor-in-chief of The Beauty Bean, said she's seen "a bigger trend in talking about butts in general." The likes of Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian--may also be part of the appeal, as is the "buttfie," or the trend of taking booty photos and posting them online.

World Cup Final: Who will God Favor? Argentina Vs Germany Pope?

World Cup Debate: Who will God Favor? Argentina Vs Germany Pope?

It is "unlikely" that Pope Benedict and Pope Francisco will see the World Cup final together. The Vatican confirms they almost certainly will not. But the current FIFA World Cup debate is who will God favor with Argentina and Germany advancing to the World Cup finals? The two living popes, Francis and ex-Pope Benedict XVI will be praying to God for their respective countries to win the finals.

Everyone knows about Francis's love for the sport — he's a huge supporter of Argentina's San Lorenzo team — and Benedict's support the current Bundesliga champion: Bayern Munich.

The two living popes will be watching the match even though it is past their bedtime. Pope Francis promised to remain neutral for the duration of the World Cup. He has kept his own bargain thus far. But the Argentinian want their Jesuit to use his Merci (Messi) connections with God to sway the World Cup in favor of his team.

Pope Francis said in an interview that "The Brazilians asked for neutrality" in his prayers for the games. Francis added, "I'll keep my word because Brazil and Argentina are always opponents."

Before the start of the tournament, Francis delivered a message hoping that the games would promote peace and friendship among different countries. Who will God Favor in Argentina vs Germany on Sunday at the Maracana. God will be watching the match. Men will be watching. Women will take time out the kitchen to watch and so are the children. It is a weekend of closing ceremonies and the debate and answer will be after full time regulations or extra time or penalties in any case.

Malala Visits Education-Threatened Nigeria

Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head by the Taliban and made a miraculous recovery to become a global campaigner for education and women's rights, visits Nigeria.

The 17-year-old, who arrived in Nigeria yesterday on her birthday, said she made the trip with her father Ziauddin in order to "honour the stories of these brave girls" who escaped from Boko Haram captivity.
Malala Visits Education-Threatened Nigeria

More than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by the militant Islamist group in April, and many are still being held captive. She said ''When I heard that the Nigerian girls were kidnapped, I felt like my sister's were imprisoned''

Malala has continued to campaign for the right of girls across the globe to have an education ever since.
In a statement after her arrival in Nigeria, and ahead of what has become designated 'Malala Day' tomorrow, the schoolgirl said: "This Malala Day, I have come to Nigeria, to honour the stories of these brave girls who have sacrificed so much to get an education and achieve their dreams.

"Whether the schoolgirls still held in captivity by Boko Haram, to the school children caught in the crossfire of escalating violence in Gaza and Israel, to the 66 million girls today who can't get the education that is their human right, my birthday wish this year is that we all raise our voices so that those without a voice can be heard.
"We can be stronger than fear, hatred, violence and poverty. The road to education, peace and equality is long, but we will succeed if we walk it together."

During her trip Malala will meet some of the girls who escaped from the Boko Haram, as well as families of those who are still being held.

She will also meet Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, charities working for girls' education, and local organisers of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, which became famous when high-profile celebrities including Angelina Jolie and America's First Lady Michelle Obama posed for pictures for the campaign on Twitter.

Happy Birthday, Nigeria's literary icon Wole Soyinka

Happy Birthday, Nigeria's literary icon Wole Soyinka

Nigeria's literary icon Wole Soyinka turned 80 on Sunday July 13 with friends and foes alike paying tribute to the poet, novelist, playwright and social activist, whose works often satirized Nigeria's society and harshly criticized corrupt and inept leaders.

President Goodluck Jonathan praised his ardent critic in a statement on Saturday, hailing Soyinka's "life-long dedication and indefatigable commitment to using his acclaimed genius and talents, not only in the service of the arts, but also for the promotion of democracy, good governance and respect for human rights in Nigeria, Africa and beyond."

Former dictator General Yakubu Gowon, who jailed Soyinka for some two years during Nigeria's 1967-70 civil war, paid respect by attending a lecture in Soyinka's hometown of Abeokuta on Friday.

Soyinka, who looks several decades younger than his age, sprang to his feet and warmly embraced his former jailer as soon as he entered the lecture hall, sparking applause from the audience.

"I have come to Abeokuta for the sake of this particular man, to honor him," said Gowon, who imprisoned the writer on suspicion of support for his rival in the 1967 standoff that eventually led Nigeria to a 30-month civil war in which an estimated one million people died, mostly of disease and starvation.

Born into an Anglican family on July 13, 1934, in Abeokuta, Soyinka cut his literary teeth in the 1950s at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria's premier university, where he studied English literature.

He also studied literature at the University of Leeds.

The poet, novelist and playwright has around 30 published works to his name, most of which satirise Nigerian society and which have made him a darling of the critics.

"Soyinka, a literary giant, is God's gift to Nigeria in particular, Africa and the world at large. His style is inimitable," Dare Ademola, a literary critic, told AFP.

HIV returns in 'US baby' thought cured

A baby girl in the US born with HIV and believed to have been cured for the first time after very early treatment has now been found to still harbour the virus. What a major set back in the cure for HIV infection.

Tests last week on the four-year-old child from Mississippi indicate she is no longer in remission, say doctors.

She had appeared free of HIV as recently as March, without receiving treatment for nearly two years.

The news represents a setback for hopes that very early treatment of drugs may reverse permanent infection.

Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told US media the new results were "obviously disappointing" and had possible implications on an upcoming federal HIV study.

"We're going to take a good hard look at the study and see if it needs any modifications," he said.

FIFA have confirmed that the Nigeria have been suspended and banned following the removal of the National Football Association. The ban takes immediate effect meaning that Nigeria will not be entitled to participate in the upcoming Under-20 Women's World Cup, which starts on 5 August - should the suspension not be lifted by 15 July.

"During the period of suspension, the NFF may not be represented in any regional, continental or international competitions, including at club level, or in friendly matches." reads FIFA statement.

An extraordinary general assembly of the federation went ahead in Abuja on Saturday, which voted out the NFF leadership who have been accused of derailing the country's World Cup campaign in Brazil, despite Fifa's warning of a possible suspension.

The government says the NFF have sent documents to show that the general assembly was held according to Fifa statutes and so the vote to remove the board at that meeting should stand.

African champions Nigeria reached the second round of the World Cup in Brazil for only the third time in their history, after they also did so in 1994 and 1998.

The statistics stacked up like pieces of rubble around the feet of Scolari and his players. This was the first time a team had scored seven in a World Cup semi-final, and the biggest defeat in one of these games since West Germany beat Austria 6-1 in 1954.

63 Kidnapped girls escape: have more guts than the Nigerian Government

63 Kidnapped girls escape: have more guts than the Nigerian Government

It seems like the only way they'll be free, as Nigeria's corrupt and incompetent president, Goodluck Jonathan, isn't going to do anything. More than 60 girls and women kidnapped by Nigeria's Boko Haram have escaped their captors Friday, a security source announced on Sunday.

“The inability or unwillingness of the federal government to provide adequate security to Chibok (Kibaku) nation following the abduction of the girls leaves us with no option than to call on the United Nations to use its apparatus to come to our aid and protect us from the imminent annihilation as a people."

“Security and defense is mainly provided by the local vigilante (who are ill-equipped) and the police while the soldiers in Chibok sit by and watch villagers being helplessly massacred in their homes, farms and in places of worship,”

Nigerian doctors strike as healthcare collapse

Day 5 of the nationwide walk-out, which was declared by the Nigerian Medical Association, has crippled health services in numerous public hospitals in Nigerian cities. The failure of the federal government to approve and fund a list of 24 demands by the country’s physicians prompted the nationwide strike.
Nigerian doctors strike over healthcare

The Health Minister said, “As I speak to you, the government has met its own side of the MoU and it is expected that the members of the NMA would from today (Friday) begin to respond and attend to all emergency cases in public hospitals in the spirit of this understanding.

“It is also expected that the NMA will call off the strike after its Emergency Delegates Meeting scheduled for next Monday, July 7, 2014.”

Reacting to the health minister's claim, the NMA president, Dr. Kayode Obembe, said there was no iota of truth in the story, saying the action would continue until a decision was reached to change the current stance.

He said, “The Emergency Delegates Meeting of the NMA will decide on Monday. Others are speculating.”

“In view of all this, I can say that if government keeps its own side of the bargain, there will be no strike in the foreseeable future. But here is the proviso: they must keep their own side of the bargain.”

The NMA president added that, contrary to the notion by some Nigerians that doctors are callous, the Association is a group of people who feel the pain of the ongoing strike.

Dr. Obembe said, “Medical doctors in Nigeria are also human beings. We actually feel bad that the association should degenerate to such a condition. We don’t want to take the lives of the Nigerian citizens for a ride.

“But one thing I want to make clear is that we were also pushed to the wall before we had to go to this length. Some of the things we are talking about now, we have been discussing it for years.

Meanwhile, healthcare cost in both private and public hospital has been inflated to the maximum. Patients have been discharged earlier for no medical care. Emergency care have been denied in both hospitals.

Why the Outrage over Soyinka's Igbo compared to Boko Haram?

Why the Outrage over Soyinka's Igbo compared to Boko Haram?

Is the Outrage Over Wole Soyinka's 'Biafra Out-Of-Bounds or the Comparison to Boko Haram brutal? The general consensus amongst the Igbo socio-political organisation is that they are very very upset and, has demanded an apology regarding a recent statement by Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, that the Boko Haram insurgency is worse than Biafra-Nigeria civil war.

In a controversial interview with Reuters, Soyinka said, “The bloodshed is now worse than during the 1967-1970 Biafra war, when a secessionist attempt by the Eastern Igbo people nearly tore Nigeria up into ethnic regions.

Reacting to the statement on Saturday began to grow and the group’s National President, Chekwas Okorie, described Soyinka’s comment as an “assault and shocking.”

“We have never been confronted with butchery on this scale, even during the civil war. There were atrocities (during Biafra), but we never had such a near predictable level of carnage and this is what is horrifying.” Okorie said.

The World Igbo Union has warned the Boko Haram sect not to venture into Igbo land.

The entire Southern Nigeria and Igbo land in particular, would resist any attempt to export the carnage in the North to their area, warning that “Nigeria may be heading for the long predicted disintegration if activities of the sect are not curtailed or confined in the North until it is finally nipped. This time around, it is most unthinkable to imagine that Ndigbo would tolerate yet another genocide against its people on our own soil unchallenged.”

“There is a lot of political conspiracy in this thing. The militia is not just blindly hurting people. But since so many girls are missing, it is ideal for us to sit down and think deeply of what is really going on. The government has been slow to act on it and I feel it has come to a point where every Nigerian has a role to play in finding a solution. Personally, I am hopeful and prayerful that these inhumane people who are killing other people are going to be stopped,” Omawumi, Nigerian singer said.

Who's responsible behind these militant group? Who are funding their operatives and why are the Nigerian government so ineffective in finding these perpetrators?

Nigerian troops have arrested a businessman suspected of being at the head of a Boko Haram intelligence network that helped plan the abduction of more than 200 school girls in the northeast, the military. Two women were also arrested as part of the investigation, one of whom was accused of coordinating payments to other "operatives". One man and two women arrested, and I'm sure there will be more to come.I hope they find those girls and get them home safely.
